Fairness From The Pulpit

Have you seen the U Tube videos of Obama's preacher, listened to his rant?

I have and it is not making this white camper happy.  Not that it was meant to anyway.  My take on it is as follows:

In this day and age it seems that it is perfectly acceptable that a black minister can call down the wrath of God on this nation's head without any fear of being called a racist himself.  By all means...dam this country...ignore any and all inroads that have been made on behalf of the black race.

Forget about the sixties and the people who stood shoulder to shoulder with their black friends, fighting, marching, picketing and yes, dying in the South to get radical change in this country.  Dam them too. Why?

Well, they and Hillary have never known the stigma of being called the N word...oh, my God...Hillary never had to overcome that!  No, actually she was called a lot worse...ranging from frigid to Lesbian there are very few horrible words that have not been tossed her way.

Hey, in his mind anybody coming to this country from Europe had an "easy" time of it? Really.  My poor dead Grandfather would roll over in his grave listening to this radical crap.  He arrived in this country with NOTHING, $20.00 in his pocket, signed in at Ellis - they shortened his name.  He was made to understand that he would have to learn ENGLISH, he would have to WORK hard and he would have to obey the law.  1916 New York City was not an easy place to survive, people tended to group together by (gasp) of all things race or nationality...sometimes just crossing a street into someone else's turf became a life or death (at best a good beating) experience.  It made him tough. He had to become tough to survive, he had to let the name calling (hey, greaser, boy lover, referring to his Greek nationality, etc.) roll off his back.

Years later he never would blame someone else for his life experiences, it was just that - life has it's up and downs.  Just because someone is white does not mean that they have led a privileged life...how can a sane person make a blanket statement like that?

The very fact that Obama is in the position that he is in now is proof that this country has changed dramatically in the last fifty years. Days of back of the bus and separate water fountains are long gone and so should this preacher's hate mongering be - gone.

The above statements are not being stated to offend anyone, I also have black relatives that I care about...I just firmly believe this minister is over the top.

Politics & Strange Bedfellows

Wow! You know what folks...here we go again.  Why are we so enthralled when they catch someone with their pants literally around their ankles in a compromising position?

Maybe paying witness to another's humiliation makes one feel superior morally and intellectually.

All I know is what I see...I see a nation held captive by the continuing saga of a Governor's downfall. And what's it all about?

sex  SEX & more sex

It was enough to wipe the Obama/Clinton race right off the front page!  Wow, maybe to really get our attention these campaigns need to add some "oomph" to their ads, just so that we really will pay attention.

Are we really just so into becoming voyeur that we would prefer to be a fly on the wall, learning in ever so much detail just what our "neighbors" do behind closed doors?

Everyone knows that sex sells, it also makes some people (yes, both men & women) act in immoral ways.  In this case, it was "don't do as I do, do as I say", or "this law is for you...I'm above the law".

Maybe it's just that I am old, but my way of thinking is still if a man wants to cheat, he is going to find a way, so will a woman.  I still think that if one is caught it should be between the husband and wife...not spread all over the newspapers...so that one becomes carrion fit only to have vultures tearing at your flesh.

Granted, in this instance...this particular man...prosecuted others for exactly what he was doing himself, making him one of the largest hypocrites in recent history. So, yes he deserves what he is getting...when you rise so high, so fast - the downfall can seem unending.

It just bothers me that we are so easily led down this path, again by the news media. If you turn on a radio, the TV, pick up a paper...go on online...the first thing you see is coverage of this incident.  Why? Why make it so dam important? Or does is distract us from watching, waiting, listening to something else that someone wants us distracted from?    I think so.
